Product Description
Ideal for singer-songwriters and guitarists, the third-generation Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is a 2×2 USB audio interface offering high-performance hardware, customizable mic tone, and a creative software bundle. The two improved Scarlett microphone preamps feature switchable phantom power and selectable Air circuits, which add brightness based on Focusrite’s legendary ISA preamplifier. The two XLR-1/4″ combo inputs can also accept unbalanced instrument level from guitars and basses, and synthesizers and drum machines, or balanced line level from a mixing console or outboard preamps.
The 24-bit / 192 kHz converters ensure that signals are captured and reproduced with detail and clarity. Hook up headphones to the front-panel 1/4″ jack and connect active speakers to the rear-panel balanced 1/4″ monitor outputs, and enjoy independent control of the headphone and speaker volume settings. Since the Scarlett 2i2 is powered via USB, you can take it anywhere your Mac or Windows computer can go. The extensive software bundle includes music production software, virtual instruments, plug-in effects, loops, and more—plenty of tools to kick-start your inspiration.

Contrary to other reviews, you DO NOT need any external drivers. It truly does remain plug-and-play, as they say. External drivers are solely optional, as your specific setup might warrant them. Here was my scenario; plug in USB to laptop, open DAW, set input to 2i2, record. Latency – what latency? That’s a thing of the past.
The 2i2 3rd Gen is a solid advancement to the product line. Generation III helps this brand to remain at the forefront of audio interfaces. I had sold a previous interface and found myself in a pinch where I needed to get something recorded and produced within 48 hours. I found myself with a 2i2 3rd Gen and it was perfect.
I play guitar in my spare time and don’t know the first thing about getting set up with a DAW or the logistics of recording my music or even getting it to play through my headphones. Other approaches I’ve seen have been extremely confusing, intimidating, and finicky to someone like me who knows nothing about the correct gear for this stuff.
Not only does this seem to be working perfectly, but the series of tutorials Focusrite has created made it extremely simple for me to get set up, plugged in, and jamming in no time.
Well built 3rd Generation interface, The official driver and software took me awhile to find it, but once you download the official driver, the setup is very easy. I like the fact that it comes with its unique ASIO driver, I used it for my guitar play, the sound quality is amazing, highly recommended.
I bought this to replace my aging M-Box II Pro audio interface. So far this Scarlett has been wonderful. So far I’ve used it with Logic, Pro Tools, and Garage Band. Easy to setup. USB powered. Build quality is excellent. Their tech support is very good.
